The Ministry of Justice of Ukraine registered a 16% decline in the number of divorces in the first 6 months of 2010, compared to the same period in 2009. Overall, according to statistics of the Ministry of Justice, over the past decade an annual decline in the number of divorces in Ukraine has been observed.

The best correlation between marriages and divorces is traditionally registered in the Zakarpattya oblast. For example, in the first 6 months of the year an average of 3 marriages per 1 divorce were registered in this oblast. The institution of marriage is traditionally strong in western oblasts. Since the beginning of 2010, there have been 1.5 – 2 marriages per 1 divorce in most of the regions, while in the Rivne, Ivano-Frankivsk, Lviv and Volyn oblasts this indicator was 2.5 marriages per 1 divorce.

All in all, the number of marriages traditionally exceeds the number of divorces in all oblasts of Ukraine. Approximately 99,000 marriages have been registered since the beginning of the year. In 2009, the number of marriages fell by 2% to 318,203, while the number of divorces fell by 13% to 145,000, according to statistics of the Ministry of Justice.
