EURO 2012 will be a great championship not only thanks to spectacular football matches, but also owing to the refined atmosphere and hospitality of the the two host nations, said UEFA President Michel Platini after a meeting of the UEFA Executive Committee.
He emphasized that preparations for the championship fostered the development of Ukraine and Poland. “The benefit for the two host countries is that they have made a giant step forward for 30 years into the future. Poland and Ukraine repaired its highways, communications and terminals in airports. They spent huge sums of money. While EURO 2012 will last for only 3 weeks, the entire new infrastructure will remain for decades. This is a big advantage for the two host countries. If the football players entertain fans with exciting matches, this will only be a benefit for the sport of football on the whole,” said Platini.
Summing up preparations for the championship conducted in 2011, Platini underscored that the task has been fulfilled and today there are no doubts that the championship will be a true holiday in the best spirit of football. Platini noted that the EURO 2012 finals drawing ceremony, which took place on December 2 in Kyiv, was the next step on the way to EURO 2012. “It was difficult, but over the last few years the new government in Ukraine has been doing its best to introduce a new and interesting system targeted especially towards EURO. At present the venues are commissioned and everything seems to be fine with them. I am convinced that it will be an amazing championship,” said Platini.Printable version
